Another Dungeon Siege-based remake, the Ultima 6 Project was formed in 2001 by Sliding Dragon to develop a remake of Origin’s Ultima 6: The False Prophet with newer graphics and a more immersive engine. Soon assembled under the banner Archon, the team members, who hail from all over the globe, have set about recreating the world of Britannia, adding an enhanced storyline to bolster intraseries continuity and building on the Ultima legacy in a way that will please fans new and old.
The project was officially released last year, to generally positive reviews. A patch was released to address some of the more problematic bugs in the game, after which the project fell silent for a spell before releasing the public beta for version 1.1 of the mod in November of 2012, after a lengthy private beta earlier in the year. The final version 1.1 release is now available, in both English and French (with a German translation on the way). Among its features are a new moongate system, quest improvements and bug fixes, interesting new areas to explore, and significant improvements to both the world map and the dungeon mapping system.
A number of mods are available for the Ultima 6 Project. While they have not yet been added to this project entry, they can be found for download at Sylore’s website. In particular, you may wish to consider installing Tribun Dragon’s portraits mod, samples from which can be seen at the Project Britannia forums.
And in a serendipitous turn of events, Dungeon Siege is on sale today at Amazon for just $4.99 (for the digital download version)!
